Photos of Antigua, Guatemala

Antigua dates back to 1543 and was during more than 200 years the capital of nowadays Central America. The town, which many find to be one of the most beautifull in Latin America was in 1979 declared a cultural monument by UNESCO.
As you can see from the photos, one of the most fascinating aspect of the town is the three giant volcanos surrounding it, as well as a great number of ruins from it´s glorious religious past. Over the years Antigua has been devastated by several earthquakes, but the town and it´s people have always been able to recover their losses and return to normal life.
